Guys @ 5 Thursday

5pm - 7pm
host: Jimmy the Kid

JIMMY THE KID aka Jim Levy, host of GUYS @ 5 THURSDAY aka This Week In Sonoma ... and beyond,  has been a radio junkie since his formative years in Shreveport, LA.  He began hanging around radio stations in his early teens and learned the disc jockey trade from George Carlin, whose first radio job (before he was a stand-up comic) was as a DJ on the #1 rock station in Shreveport, KJOE, the inspiration for his "Wonderful Wino" routine.  After being "mentored" by Carlin,  Levy eventually became a jock on that station and others in the market, working Summers and week-ends ... using a different name with each gig ... during the early '60s.  He also ran the campus radio station at his alma mater, Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie-Mellon University), and worked part-time radio jobs in Pittsburgh while at school. Levy's professional career took him away from radio for 25 years.  He is probably best known professionally as the founding Chairman and CEO of Activision Inc. (now Activision Blizzard), the world's first independent producer and marketer of video game software.  One industry writer calls him "the patron saint of video game design."  Prior to that, Levy was a brand marketing manager for Hershey Chocolate; developed new multimedia publishing projects for Time Inc. (among the first "books on tape"); and spent six years in the recorded music industry as a direct marketing and business development guru for GRT Corp. Levy returned to his radio roots in the early '90s by founding The Park Lane Group, a broadcast investment and operating company.  Park Lane acquired 16 stations in seven markets in California and Arizona and was one of the first groups to practice market consolidation in small radio markets.  Levy sold the group in 1998 as a wave of consolidation swept the industry.  He and his wife, Marcia (aka The Divine Ms. M), then traveled the world providing advice and counsel to venture capital organizations based in Asia and their offices and portfolio companies in Asia, Europe and the U.S. In 2004, the Levys "retired" and moved from Silicon Valley to Sonoma.  Both have been very active in local organizations since their arrival.  Levy has served as Chair of the Sonoma Valley Film Society and on the Boards of La Luz and Sonoma Jazz+.  Marcia has served on several boards and recently was honored with the Pulse Award by the Hospital Foundation for her service to the community.  Jim continues to provide advice and counsel to early-stage companies. Jimmy The Kid first appeared on the radio in Sonoma as a guest on Ken Brown's morning show in December 2007.  He subsequently became a co-host of the Thursday morning show.  In early 2010, he left the mornings to become The Guys At Five (aka This Week In Sonoma ... and beyond) on Thursdays. The TWIS Team also includes Eric (Ace) Riess, THE David Bolling (aka The Editor) and RLo (aka Rick Love) plus special contributors on politics, economy and markets, education, health, arts and entertainment, lifestyle and sports..
