Maurice’s World of Jazz

Maurice’s World of Jazz

Jazz is a uniquely American product that spread internationally in the 1930’s. I lived abroad for 24 of my 36 years of service as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. During that time I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing the greatest jazz from Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America.  These are the sounds I will be presenting on Thursday nights from 9:00 – 11 PM. There will be no holds barred. It will include everything from Jelly Roll Morton to Jon Baptiste; Django Rheinhardt to Abdulla Ibrahim; and Carlos Antonio Jobim to Sado Watanabe.  My musical tastes were influenced by my father, Robert Parker, who was a founding partner of KWBR, the first Black radio station in the Bay Area to exclusively play jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel music. I have hosted jazz radio shows in Berkeley, Palo Alto and on Radio Demerara in Georgetown, Guyana, an AM station broadcasting to all nations of the Caribbean. I now look forward to sharing this international experience with you.
