This episode of the Daedalus Howell Show is in large part concerned with notions of "change." First we discuss the man who put ch-ch-ch-changes in the rock and roll vocabulary -- David Bowie, by way of author Dave Thompson's wonderful new biography "Hallo Spaceboy, the rebirth of David Bowie" now available in bookstores everywhere. My brother Shannon Ferguson recalls the diffulty of getting change in New York City -- to make a phone call. And finally, I chat with Elise Elrod, a former engineer and Southern Baptist pastor who struggled with Gender Identity until making some changes herself. The show closes on some selections from Wenday Carlos' Switched on Bach.

Back to School! In this episode of the Daedalus Howell Show, we go back to school - or at least I do - literally. As a freshman in 1986, French and drama teacher Madame Wadsworth suspended me for a bawdy stage production of Dr. Strangelove. 20 years later, I reunited with (as we affectionately referred to her) "The Wad" to chat about the aftermath. Also, I try to track down actor Keith Gordon who Starred opposite Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School, only to learn he directed a film based on a novel by mine and author pal Eric Spitznagel's hero Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Alex Freeman assists.

We use them, abuse them, make them and break them — today we’re talking about Laws. Poet Archibald MacLeish wrote “The business of the law is to make sense of the confusion of what we call human life—to reduce it to order
but at the same time to give it possibility, scope, even dignity.” Well, he didn’t write Ginsberg’s Howl. On this special edition of the Daedalus Howell Show – in honor of America’s Independence Day and the drunken barbecue
debauch I’ll be attending shortly – we will consider the law as expressed in at least a few ways in our society. Joining us is Supervisor James Warner, a 20 year veteran of the Las Vegas police force and author of 101 Reasons Why You Should Not Become a Cop; attorney Rosaclaire Baissinger will help sort my intellectual property issues; Nick T. Spark, author of A History of Murphy’s Law, explains why whatever can go wrong will; and writer Kelly Kreglow riffs on in-laws.
