Mondays 9pm to 10pm Amalia Leon de Garcia is host of the Monday evening program ContraPunto. Always thoughtful and enlightening, Amalia offers commentary on diverse subjects including history, politics, education, and literature. She often reads stories or book excerpts about the Latino American culture and enjoys sharing her knowledge of Mexican Indian cultures with listeners, to whom she offers sentences of various indigenous language. Amalia is a Spanish-English translator with the Santa Rosa court system and a long-time leader in the Sonoma Valley Hispanic community. Upon her arrival in Sonoma in the 1970s, she became part of a small group that organized the first Spanish mass in the Valley. That same group started the first ESL program at Sonoma Valley High School, with Amalia teaching the evening English classes. Amalia loves literature, cooking, and discussing important issues. She is the mother of actor and performer Diego Garcia, who also hosts the KSVY program Road Dust. Her other son, Alex Garcia, is host of KSVY’s Tune Up.
