Fred's Picks Sundays 8pm to 9pm
Born in Philadelphia within a mile of where the original Pennsylvania Dutch immigrant landed 13 generations ago. Born a half breed of Pennsylvania Dutch and Norwegian, grandson of immigrants and poor farmers, son of cultural clash, read every book about Indians as a kid, soaked in the 60s with that monkey on my back, grew up in suburbia, away from family land and ties, was given a taste of the country and genuine culture at Farm and Wilderness in Vermont, turned into a modern individual who had to create all the meaning of the world out of himself, a connoisseur of methods of inquiry, a tumbling tumbleweed of rootless secular angst and exploration, observer and participant, Quaker, BA in anthropology, 17 trail crews leader on public lands across the intermountain west with SCA, a house painter, a Mexico traveler, honorary Mexican with my own bed and cup and tools in the attic out in the Sierra Madre in Chihuahua, explorer of inner space with hardly any exterior signs of status, security or materialism, Appalachian Trail hiker, West Coast Trail, Olympic Coast, John Muir Trail and many more, unmarried spouse of the lovely and beautiful Kim Bartlett, and now here in Sonoma on a one-time basis, on the threshold of eternity and probably less than 30 years from the final abyss, guitar picker, singer, natural artist and class clown turned grown-up performer, and much more. That’s enough for now. |
