Roughly 40 minutes in between will be focused on a theme like, a well-known artist, a popular genre, or, a seasonal celebration, like Mardi Gras or Brazilian Carnival. Local music venues, concerts and musicians will be the subject of conversation and phone interviews. I would also like to receive phone calls during the closing tune to discuss ideas about future programs.

Jazz appreciation is the basic goal of programming and I hope to find a “community” of jazz lovers in the Valley and to encourage others to get on board. I hope to meet around town with other fans to share music, photos, films and any ephemera people have collected. Where are the Eulipions?

 

The DJ’s profile:

A music lover since I got my first clock/radio tuned into Wolfman Jack on his nightly program border blasting up the Central Valley from the big XERB in Tijuana, Mexico - “50,000 watts of Boss Soul Power.”

I became a serious record collector when the Beatles crossed the pond, later becoming a concert junkie at the Fillmore and Winterland. Shortly after that you could find me out clubbing in SF and the E. Bay expanding my musical taste where jazz, funk and soul were added to a steady diet of blues and rock and roll.

Fast forward to life in Sonoma County where I started working with Healdsburg Jazz over 10 years ago. Years of hard work doing the heavy lifting at venues, later working the bars and eventually I landed in the green room making sure the artists are made comfortable with food and beverage service.

I landed in Sonoma late in 2020 and, as covid was lifting, I found hospitality work, then discovered the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society. I got that door open with an email titled, “Will Work For Jazz.” I accepted an invitation to their board meeting and before that meeting was over, I was a new board member, and their staff photographer.

Although I am happy working with those great jazz organizations, I’m still looking to expand my horizons…
