About the Host

Sophia de Leon Sanchez

Sophia de Leon Sanchez is a Sonoma-based singer, multi-instrumentalist, flamenco dancer, choreographer, and educator whose artistic life bridges music, movement, and cultural tradition.

She has studied and performed flamenco for more than 17 years, training extensively with internationally acclaimed artists in Spain and the United States, including Paloma Gomez, Carmela Greco, Eduardo Guerrero, Raquel Heredia, Adi Movdat, and many other respected masters of the art form. While living in Chicago, she spent five years performing original choreographies in theaters throughout the city as part of Dance Chicago.

Since making Sonoma her home, Sophia has found a vibrant community of artists and kindred spirits who inspire her every day. As Sonoma's 2025 Dance Artist in Residence, she continues to share her love of flamenco through performances, teaching, and cultural outreach while expanding her creative work as a musician and performer.

For Sophia, Sonic Mélange is both a love letter to music and a gift to the community that welcomed her.

"I've always looked at radio as a dependable friend who's always there for you—whether first thing in the morning as you make your coffee or late at night as you're winding down the day. There's something deeply comforting about simply turning the dial and knowing someone or some song will be there to keep you company. I've always wanted to be part of that world, to add my own color to the beautiful tapestry of sound on the airwaves. In Sonoma I found a community of kindred spirits who share so much with one another, and this program is my way of giving something back through the gift of music."
